Coronation ceremonies are elaborate ceremonial events that mark the accession of a new monarch to the throne and are laden with ritual, tradition and symbolism. Historically, marking the transmutation from human to sacred, a monarch enters their coronation as a worldly being. However, through the ceremony of anointing and coronation, Godโs grace is bestowed, historically enabling the monarch to emerge transformed and reign in selfless service, loyalty and duty. Like the ceremony and the space in which it occurs, the monarch’s coronation robes are imbued with meaning.
