A Brief Introduction to The Spread Eagle

The Spread Eagle Hotel and Spa is a charming English historic inn retaining its heritage yet providing every contemporary comfort. It is located in the heart of the South Downs National Park in the pretty Sussex market town of Midhurst. It is exceptionally convenient for visiting the nearby ruins of Cowdray House.

One of England’s oldest coaching inns, dating back to 1430. From contemporary descriptions, Elizabeth I likely visited the inn, speaking to the people of Midhurst from an open window at first-floor level. This room is now called The Queen’s suite in her honour. You can sleep in a lovely four-poster bed and enjoy its wonky floors. Everything you would hope from such an ancient building!

Today, the Spread Eagle Inn is home to thirty-nine delightful bedrooms and a modern spa. Its restaurant is excellent, and I can highly recommend dinner followed by costing up next door in the bar, which is full of oldey-worldy features. Fabulous!
