A Brief Introduction to Milden Hall

Tucked away in the heart of Suffolk, Milden Hall is known for preserving one of Englandโ€™s finest sixteenth to seventeenth-century farmyards. Offering a glimpse into the past while remaining a vibrant, living piece of Suffolk heritage, the farmyard at Milden Hall is home to two large aisled barns and two cart lodges, one of which features a rare first-floor granary.

A Georgian faรงade disguises the timber-framed Tudor house that sits at the heart of the estate, but half of it retains its original Tudor charm. Inside, youโ€™ll find small rooms, linenfold panelling, and even a quaint pantry with old bricks.

Milden Hall is privately owned by the Hawkins family, who are passionate historians and conservationists. Their commitment to Suffolk’s rich history is reflected in their eclectic collection of ancient maps, books, prints, and postcards, as well as a fascinating array of field-walked artefacts spanning from the Stone Age to World War II. Art enthusiasts will also appreciate their collection of works by Harry Becker, a Suffolk artist known for his powerful depictions of rural life. Itโ€™s not just the history that makes Milden Hall special – itโ€™s also a haven for wildlife. The farm boasts ancient wildflower meadows, species-rich hedges and ponds.
